The Junior School

Tucked safely away between the Music School and Senior School, the DSG Junior School is a happy home to girls from Grade 4 to Grade 7.

It is a vibrant and enriching place, filled with art and music and offers a complete lifestyle for the girls. They attend all extra mural activities in the safety of campus.

The excellent academic curriculum encourages participation in teamwork, confidence and the ability to think independently. Additional activities within the school campus include design and technology, information technology, ballet, music, orchestra and an annual drama production.

Assessment reports are sent to parents at the end of every term and parent/teacher meetings are held frequently.

The academic programme is backed by a full programme of sport, including tennis, squash, hockey, swimming, netball and athletics. Riding may be done as an extra.

The school provides boarding for the DSG Junior girls in the refurbished and historic Greystone House. The girls sleep in beautifully decorated dormitories and have their own common room on the ground floor. The relaxed, homely atmosphere is enhanced by the care of house parents and students from Rhodes University and each junior girl is given a “big sister” to look after her.

The Junior School has special Chapel services run by the school Chaplain, aimed at the specific spiritual and emotional needs of the younger girls. The girls are encouraged to discuss problems with the Chaplain, who is also the school counsellor.  The Sanatorium sister, who lives on campus, is there to see to the physiological needs and doles out many hugs together with medicine.
