MANDELA DAY
The whole school undertook 67 minutes of Community Service on Sunday the 17th of July in recognition of Mandela Day. The girls began their variety of service activities at 2pm. The Espin and Day girls walked around the outside of the DSG school in various directions collecting litter. The Crewe girls focused on planting seedlings in the Crewe garden and the Merriman girls sorted through piles of paper to find what was recyclable. The senior Merriman girls emptied out the outreach office which collects clothes, stationery and books that are no longer needed at DSG. They prepared boxes for the purposes of donating them to other organisations. Community Service, because of the large number of girls involved, focussed on serving the school community. The Interact Board thought that it was more important that the whole school acknowledge this event in the life of our country making it something that becomes a part of the girls lives for the future.
