On Sunday the DSG Interact Club took the Home of Joy down to Kenton-on Sea Main Beach where the children took to the water in absolute delight and the children spent their whole morning swimming, supported and encouraged by the DSG girls. Margaret Ncanga, a grandmother, has adopted and fostered seventeen children and is in constant need of community support. A beach outing is only one of the many needs that this devoted woman requires.
A cloudy morning, beginning with huge nerves about whether or not we would even get to the beach were luckily settled early and our excitement increased when we were told beach bonding would be going ahead! The 22 beautiful Home of Joy children greeted us with the biggest smiles, they couldn't wait to swim, regardless of the cold weather! We mixed up the buses and got our bonding started early on our trip to Kenton with each DSG girl seated next to a child from the home of joy. On arrival at Kenton we removed our shoes, grabbed a child and headed down to the beach, this was quickly followed by clothes thrown everywhere and feet hitting the water! With the waves hitting their knees there were screams of excitement as we jumped over waves together and spent what felt like 5 minutes but was well over an hour getting wet, playing games, keeping the babies dry and having the time of our lives! The time spent on the beach was unforgettable in so many ways as we really bonded with the kids and even though the day was organized for their benefit, there is no doubt that we enjoyed it just as much and nothing meant more to us than watching them laugh and have an absolute ball!
