The Facilities

In a bold initiative at bringing the educational programme into line with world trends, the DSG and St Andrew’s College share a magnificent Design and Technology Centre. It consists of three levels and at any one time it can house up to 100 students engaged in different activities such as drawing, fashion design, jewellery design, product design, architecture and interior design, electronics or robotics. Studios house metalwork and welding, woodwork, plastics, graphics, video, photography and ceramics.

Students are constantly challenged to stretch their minds to the limit.

The DR Wynne Music School is situated on the border between the DSG and St Andrew’s College. It is the wide variety of musical styles available for study, along with the superb facilities, that characterise musical instruction at the school. Expertise in classical, jazz and contemporary music is offered. A computer lab houses the latest music programmes and a recording studio provides hands-on training for budding sound engineers.

Strong emphasis is placed on participation in ensembles, the Senior Orchestra, Wind Orchestra, Jazz Band, Marimba Band, Chapel Choir, Chamber Choir or Soul Choir.

In the modern, airy Dance Studio, girls from the Junior School have interactive drama classes and dance and ballet lessons, Grade 8 and 9 girls are taught Physical Theatre as part of the Arts and Culture curriculum and the studio is home to the senior girls who do Dance as a subject.  Ballet, modern dance and exercise classes for all those interested, are taught there.

Adjacent to the studio is a modern, fully equipped Gymnasium.

The Drama department classrooms have been specially adapted for this popular subject and the Physical Theatre component is taught in the Dance Studio.

The Art Studio in the Carnac teaching block is a sanctum for our young artists who spend their time painting and perfecting, often locked away into their own worlds while creating top art.

The DSG offers girls access to a sophisticated network of Information Techology. Facilities are spread across the DSG and St Andrew’s  campuses and we are linked to the Internet via Rhodes University. Pupils gain experience in all areas of information technology and learn to apply up-to-date systems in a wide range of academic work. Computer applications are integrated across the curriculum and information retrieval is taught as an essential skill.  All girls have access to e-mail, the Internet and our Intranet.
