The DSG Junior School offers a balanced programme which ensures that the girls are nurtured in a happy and enriching environment. Apart from an excellent academic curriculum, which encourages thought, participation and teamwork, the girls are kept busy with a variety of additional activities, such as music, drama, design and technology, information technology, modern dancing, aerobics and riding. The academic programme is backed up by a full programme of sporting activities that include tennis, squash, athletics, hockey and swimming.
The school provides boarding for girls from Grade 4 to Grade 7 in a beautifully refurbished historic Greystone House. There is a relaxed homely atmosphere in the boarding house where the girls are cared for by a housemistress and three students.
Assessment reports are sent to parents at the end of every term and parent/teacher meetings are held frequently.
Teachers at the school are dedicated and they have a strong sense of commitment to the individual student. They ensure that the school provides an environment where girls can learn and make mistakes, and in so doing discover themselves, and build up a resilience to face new realities, to examine current trends and access facts. Besides this, in order to cope with an uncertain future in an increasingly technical world, they are constantly encouraged to develop creative thinking, a strong sense of social responsibility and effective communication skills.
The Junior School forms a vital and integral part of DSG as a whole and for the School the past 137 years have been action packed and challenging. Visitors comment favourably on the energy, tangible happiness and self-confidence of the girls, while the staff nurture enduring qualities of kindness and stability.
DSG Junior School is all things to all people. Built on a strong Christian foundation, it aims at recognising and encouraging a girl's abilities, challenging her development along constructive and creative lines and entrenching a love of learning and of the arts. Within the school, it is strongly believed, there must be something for everybody.
