National Secondary Schools Athletics Championships – Port Elizabeth 30-31 March

The National Secondary Schools Athletics Championships were held in Port Elizabeth this year, with the best athletes in the country competing on the NMMU track.

Thandeka Mdlokovana of DSG, Richard Duncan and Nieuwoudt Gresse of St Andrew\'s College were a part of this elite group of athletes competing as part of the Eastern Cape Team. Both Richard Duncan and Nieuwoudt Gresse successfully made it to the of finals or their events, the U19 high jump and U17 javelin respectively. Both boys gained tremendously from the experience.

Thandeka Mdlokovana (pictured below), who was competing at the Nationals for a second year in a row, made the most of her experience and capitalized on her opportunities managing 4th place in the U19 100m and an amazing 3rd place in the 200m where she also ran a personal best time of.

This outstanding athlete, dubbed the DSG Gazelle, is reaping the reward of five long years of hard and lonely training.
