JULY 2008

THE CHALLENGE

11 Girls took part in the DSG Challenge, a fund raising event that involved the girls running and cycling their way to Cape Town from Grahamstown in a relay style format and a 22 km swim across Algoa Bay (PE Bay) from the new Coega Harbour to Hobbie beach.

After the first day of cycling the girls tackled the swim in good, but not ideal, conditions.  After 21 kms the swim was abandoned due to shark sightings off Kings Beach as a result of a whale carcass washing up on the shore. !

Following the swim we continued our journey along the scenic R62 road where the team cycled up to 140km in a day and ran up to 5km legs. Everyone put their heart and sole into the activities toughing out some massive climbs, inclement weather and, at times, busy traffic!

This was done to raise funds for the DSG Unite and St Matthews boarding house renovations. The final amount has yet to be calculated.

The girls – Belinda Zonnestein, Cayley Tonkin, Chelsea Bruk-Jackson, Georgie Pagden, Georgie Wilkinson, Gaby Linder, Michaela Surtees, Shelley Snyman, Katie Fenner, Mel Ferguson and Michelle Horak  - have outdone themselves.  Congratulations to them all!
