NEW ARTS AWARD:

Arts Honours

The school would like to give recognition to girls who are highly proficient in, and dedicated to, a number of arts practices.  We have thus initiated the Arts Honours award.

Recipients of this Honours certification need to have received Colours for two arts practices (out of Dance, Drama, Music and Art), and to display an indisputably high level of proficiency in at least one other.

The level of technical excellence in terms of skill has to be of the highest, acquired and expressed over a number of years' worth of application, focus, dedication and commitment; the level of involvement and service to the arts in general has to be comprehensive and mature.

Two candidates comply with these criteria.

Anthea Gilfillan and Edwardine van Wyk are both highly proficient and dedicated to the achievement of excellence in their service to the Arts. Unselfish, sensitive and intelligent performers they serve the arts and not the ego. They have given of themselves in many different arts processes to forge highly credible performance products. They are dedicated, talented and focused across at least three disciplines.

  • Anthea has Dance Honours, Drama Colours and Soul Choir Colours.
  • Edwardine has Dance Colours, Drama Colours and Chapel Choir Half Colours.

They are therefore both highly deserving recipients of Arts Honours.

DANCERS ACHIEVE HIGHEST AWARDS:

Citations for Dance Honours Awards: 8 July 2008

Samantha Copeman
Samantha has graced the DSG stage as a lead dancer in both big school dance productions, A Grimm Tale and The Levitation Lesson.  Her technical prowess and acting skills have allowed her to develop into an amazingly proficient performer.  She has also had the opportunity to develop her choreographic abilities and in addition has proven to be an adept teacher.  Samantha's focus, passion and dedication to the art of dance have been an inspiration to those around her.  She is altogether most deserving of Dance Honours.

Anthea Gilfillan
Anthea's involvement in the Studio has given her the opportunity to be part of the First Physical Theatre Youth Company, to perform at three National Arts Festivals and to perform at every opportunity the school has to offer. Through this she has also developed her choreographic skills.  She works tirelessly on improving her technique and her expressive performance. She is always willing to help around the Studio.  Anthea has achieved high levels of assessment in both Modern and Ballet exams.  Her love of dance and the discipline it has instilled in her life is evident in all her many, successful endeavours. She is therefore a most credible candidate for achieving Dance Honours.

Robyn Tustin
Robyn joined DSG in her Grade 10 year and stepped right into a lead role in A Grimm Tale, therefore securing her a top spot amongst the school's group of talented dancers. Robyn has worked consistently on improving her skills and proficiency as a dancer and choreographer. This is evident in her performance record which has taken her to Rhodes University to perform in a Masters Student's Contemporary Performance work, as well as gracing our own stages in Dance and Drama productions.  Robyn has achieved Distinctions in both Modern and Ballet exams and is currently preparing for her Advanced Ballet examinations later this year.  She is committed, passionate and always willing to help others in the Studio. She regularly steps in to teach and so shares her exceptional talent and love of dance with others.  She has led the Studio dancers in her capacity as Dance Captain, and is a most worthy recipient of Dance Honours.
