JULY AND AUGUST NEWS
DSG Garbage Gowns Fashion Show
The Diocesan School for Girls Garbage Gowns Fashion Show is an annual event which takes place in the Design and Techology Centre on the St Andrew’s College school campus. The Grade 7 girls make ballroom dresses out of plastic garbage bags. It has become an exciting project as there are now more colours to choose from when it comes to garbage bags and any style goes. The most sophisticated designs are achieved and the girls looked stunning this year. The entire programme which includes: Stage Management, Music, Choreography and much more is put together entirely by the Grade 7 girls and they enjoy the modelling of the outfits to the school, teachers and parents. Some of the girls that were involved in the project had following to say about the event: “It’s fun to recycle”, said Jemma Wilkins-Jones. “It’s so interesting doing this project because we are making beautiful dresses out of things people throw away or consider to be rubbish.” Says Tasneen Jacobs.
