MUSIC HONOURS :  CITATION

HAYLEY JACKSON

Hayley arrived at DSG in her Grade 9 year, already a proficient pianist and violinist.  She has been a member of the Senior Orchestra since then and has led the ensemble since January 2009.  She passed her grade 7 piano exam in 2008 with distinction and her Grade 8 violin exam in 2009 with distinction.

Hayley performs regularly in the Rhodes University Orchestra, taking part in all of its concerts as one of the first violin players.  She has been a member of the Rhodes University String Ensemble and has performed in the “Juan, Mariel and Friends Concert Series” on several occasions.

Hayley has taken part in the Franschoek Chamber Music Courses several times and the Eastern Cape Philharmonic Orchestral Experience.  She has been chosen as a member of the National Youth Orchestra for 2009 and 2010, thus being recognised on a national level.  She performed with the National Youth Orchestra Strings after an intensive rehearsal period in their three concerts at the National Festival of the Arts in July 2010.

Hayley has participated in the “Rising Stars Competition” and the Grahamstown Music Competition.  This year she succeeded in getting through the final round of the concerto competition which means that she will play her concerto with the Rhodes Orchestra in the finalists’ Competition in October in the Guy Butler Theatre.

Hayley is also a member of the Chamber Choir and is a competent chorister.  She assists with part practices by playing the piano.   She has also played on special occasions with the School String Quartet.

In the light of this substantial list of achievements, we warmly recommend her for Music Honours.
