Forward Planning 2011
Date : 8th November 2010

8 November 2010

Dear Parents,

In order to help you plan for the 2011 year I thought I would include some sporting and additional information about projects and activities that are planned.

Prefects Camp (14-16 January 2011):

If your daughter is a Prefect for 2011 it is important to note that the prefects are due back in Grahamstown on the 14th of January (Friday) by 15h00. I will arrange a bus or transport at the airport for 13h00. Please could you contact me directly if you need this service?

Summer Sports Camps (16 – 19 January):

There will be, as every year, summer pre-season training. There will be swimming, water polo and tennis camps. This information has already have gone out from Miss Pam Bowren. If you require further information please contact her directly:

Miss Pam Bowren: 084 084 588 4273

Rowing Camp (12 – 18 January 2011)

Information pertaining to this will be sent out by Sandy Schultz.

Annual River Mile Swim (13 February 2011 – approx 14h00)

The River Mile Swim will be taking place on the 13th February at 14h00. The new venue of Bushman’s River Mouth will again be used. Unfortunately the swim will be later in the day than usual in order to make effective use of the tides. This swim involves all three schools with Prep, College and DSG Junior and Senior. Most children swim the half-mile event with the senior pupils (Grade 10-12) swimming the full mile. This event is not open to the public, but parents are welcome to partake should they wish. For more information you can contact either David Wright or Pam Bowren

Water polo – St Peter’s Tournament (25 – 27 February 2011)

The 1st Water polo Team has been invited to the St Peter’s Tournament in Johannesburg in 2011. This is prestigious tournament and it will pit our girls against the best in the country. The team will fly up on the 24th February and return on Monday 28th February.

Hockey – U16 Woodridge Tournament (8-11 April 2011)

The U16A hockey side will be competing in the Woodridge U16 Girls Tournament in April next year. This is a wonderful opportunity for the girls as we are always looking for pre-season match play. Please note that this is the first weekend of the April Holiday. Selection for this tournament will likely take place in early March. The contact person regarding this tournament will be Miss Pam Bowren.

1st Team Netball – St Andrews Girls Tournament (7 – 10 April 2011)

The 1st Team Netball side will again be travelling to Johannesburg during the Easter Vacation to compete in the St Andrews Girls Netball Tournament. Melissa Duiker will be organising this tour and information pertaining to this event can be obtained from her.

1st XI Hockey – St Mary’s Tournament (7 – 10 April 2011) & Kingswood Festival (30 April – 2 May)

The 1st Team hockey side will be taking part in two tournaments over the Easter Vacation next year. Firstly they will travel to Johannesburg where they will take part in the St Mary’s Tournament. The girls will then return to Grahamstown early so that they can take part in the Kingswood Festival that the DSG will be assisting in hosting.

EP Hockey Camp (15-17 April 2011)

It has been proposed (but not passed) that EP Hockey trials will include a camp in Grahamstown over the weekend of 15-17 April. The idea is that each region will pick a team (DSG being a part of Albany) that will then take part in a training camp and selection process. Most schools are in session and DSG is not. Girls wanting to take part in the U16 and U18 hockey sides may need to make themselves available for this weekend. Further information on this will be available in late November. Please contact David Wright for more information on this.

The DSG and St Andrews China/Vietnam Tour

Two groups of approximately 20 pupils each will be embarking on a staggered tour of China and Vietnam.

The DSG Challenge 2011 (23 August – 5 September)

The DSG Challenge, which will be termed the Fish to Fish, will take place during the August Holiday. This fundraising venture will see girls hiking the Fish River Canyon before cycling back to Grahamstown in order to raise funds for their chosen charity. This trip is already over-subscribed with a substantial waiting list. For those people wanting more information, please contact David Wright.

Athletics Sports Day 2011 (1 October 2011)

The current proposed Athletics Sports Day is for 1 October 2011. The Relay Meeting will be held during Balloon Week on the Thursday of Balloon Week. Please note that whatever day the Athletics Sports Day is held will be considered a normal school day. It will be compulsory for all pupils to attend and sleep-outs should not be planned for this weekend.

BALLOON WEEK (10 – 13 October 2011)

Balloon week is scheduled for the 10th – 13th of October 2011. Please note that a programme of scheduled events will go out closer to the time.

DRESS CHANGE:

Please note that all pupils MUST have the white DSG Golfer with the DSG crest and green trim for 2011. These golfers are to be worn with their ‘whites’ in place of the plain white golfer. Girls are not to wear any other white tops. Golfers with the DSG crest and green trim are available from the Clothing Exchange.
