YOUNG GRAHAMSTOWN MATHEMATICIANS PERFORM WELL IN BALI, INDONESIA!

Teams from Grahamstown, Cape Town and Bloemfontein represented South Africa in the recent International Mathematics Competition which was held in Bali, Indonesia from the 18th – 23rd July 2011.

Our team from Grahamstown participated in the Keystage II competition (12-13years) and were amongst 66 teams who participated from all over the world.  Although the standard of Mathematics was of an extremely high standard, our team consisting of Jess Ferreira (DSG Junior), Nic Kroon (St Andrew’s Prep), Chris Matthews and Paula Duxbury (both Kingswood Junior) did us proud and successfully achieved a merit award for their efforts in the team category.  Not only have they been given the chance to represent their country, but they also learnt a great deal about the way of life of the Balinese people and met a diverse range of people from across the globe.

The team was accompanied by Mr Thomas Hagsphil, director of Mathematics from SAC as well as Mrs Eunice Timm, the Grade 7 teacher from DSG Junior.
