15 DSG pupils will be tackling the latest of the schools ‘Challenge’ in order to raise funds for the Holy Cross School and the DSG Foundation. The ‘Challenge’ has become a tradition at the school where girls take on a physical challenge in order to raise funds for a charity of their choice. These events have included swimming the English Channel and swimming from Robben Island to Bloubergstrand and also cycling the length of the Garden route.

For 2011 the girls will be taking on a new challenge in that they will be going from the Fish River in Namibia to the Fish River in the Eastern Cape. The girls will hike the 90km Fish River Canyon and then cycle from Upington back to Grahamstown over a period of two weeks.
The 15 girls range in age from 16 to 18 years old and have managed to train for the event in addition to their myriad amounts of other commitments at the school. The girls have been to Rhodes University spinning classes twice a week and have done a Sunday cycle.
The school will be providing the bicycles and most of the equipment for the trip, but we must thank Hi-Tec who have sponsored hiking boots and The Motion Shop who have supplied cycling equipment.
The girls have raised in excess of R100,000 and are hoping to raise more before the completion of the event. If anyone is interested in donating money towards the cause, they can contact David Wright at 046 603 4300.
