INTERNATIONAL MATHS COMPETITION – BALI, INDONESIA – 17 – 24 JULY
Thomas Hagspihl (Director of the St Andrew’s Maths Centre) as the team leader and Eunice Timm (Grade Seven Teacher, DSG) will be accompanying 4 Grade 7s from Grahamstown to Bali, Indonesia later on next term.
The organisers, the Ministry of National Education of Indonesia have invited 4 cities from South Africa to attend this international Maths competition. The cities from South Africa include Durban, Bloemfontein, Cape Town and Grahamstown!
The organiser will take charge of all official expenses including accommodation, meals, transportation and sightseeing activities during the official period of the competition.
The competition entails being exposed to both an individual and group competition where competitors will be put through their paces in solving various maths problems.
All the schools in Grahamstown were invited to send their top mathematicians to sit for the exam. At the end of the day Jessica Ferreira (DSG Junior), Nic Kroon (St Andrews Prep) as well as Paula Duxbury and Chris Matthews (Kingswood) qualified.
