HOLIDAY SPORT REPORT - MAY 2011
U16A Hockey – Woodridge Festival (7-10 April)
Won 2, lost 2 and Drew 1
It was a very successful and productive Festival. The style and pattern of hockey played by the girls is very promising for the upcoming season as the girls controlled the midfield well, distributed the ball onto leading-runs brilliantly and defended well under pressure. They learnt to be more physical against tough opposition and managed both the heat and circumstances excellently. Well done.
1st Team Netball – St Andrew’s Festival (7-10 April)
Won 9, Lost 8
The 1st team netball girls played with heart, enthusiasm and commitment throughout the 4 days of the festival. Their determination and discipline was impeccable and most teams enjoyed the lively, optimistic joyous spirit of the DSG team.
The team walked away with the Spirit Award.
They finished 4th in the Plate Cup – final position of 16th out of 24 teams.
1st Team Hockey
St Mary’s Festival (7-10 April)
Won 1, Drew 6, Lost 4
This festival is one of the toughest school festivals in the country. The 1st team is a young side and although we didn’t do as well as we hoped, the girls gained lots of experience and we were able to work on our pattern play which improved throughout the week. This festival was a good learning curve and enjoyed by all.
Kingswood Festival (29 April-1May)
After 10 days of rest the 1st team then tackled the Kingswood Festival where they won 3 and lost 3 games.
Although, in 2 of the losses we were the better side but were just unable to score. The girls have shown great improvement since St Mary’s festival and they are moving the ball around nicely.
Rowing:
Kayleigh Scheepers and Jenienne Curr trained throughout the holiday in order to compete in the SA Trials regatta held last weekend.
The girls competed in the Double where they won their race by 3 boat lengths and were the best performing junior side at the regatta.
They then went on to compete at the SA Senior National Championships where they finished 2nd in the Double in the U23 age group.
SA Rowing will announce a team to take part in the world champs later this week and we hope that the girls will make it into this team.
Swimming
Robyn Charter and Erin Graham took part in the Senior and Youth National Swimming Championships during the holiday in PE.
Both girls did incredibly well setting personal bests in several events. Erin managed gold in the U18 50m Backstroke Youth Final. Robyn made 4 Youth Finals in the U18 Age Group.
Well done to both Robyn and Erin.
