Congratulations to Jenienne Curr and Kayleigh Scheepers on their selection to the South African Junior Rowing team to compete at the Junior World Rowing Championships to be held at Eton, Dorney Lake from 3-7th August 2011.
The 2x Junior National Champion's DSG double combination of Jenienne Curr and Kayleigh Scheepers represented the Eastern Cape at the Junior National Selections, as well as the SA Senior Championships which took place at Roodeplaat Dam in Pretoria last weekend. The crew came up against a strong Gauteng Junior combination on Friday, which they beat convincingly, despite being under pressure for most of the 2000 meter race. Their winning time was comparatively one of the best performances out of all the junior boys and girls crews and all but guaranteed them a place in the Junior National Team to take part in the Junior World Rowing Championships which takes place on the 2012 Olympic Games Rowing Course in Eton, Great Britain from 4 to 7 August. The crew also placed 2nd in the SA Senior Championships on Sunday, behind an Old Edwardians crew comprising of 2 senior national team members, after having lead the race for the first 750 meters. This is the first female Eastern Cape crew to gain National Selection.
