Rowing - Knysna Regatta
This weekend, 15 fit and very enthusiastic girls travelled to Knysna for the annual regatta against the Western Cape schools. The girls rowed in the quad races, winning the Open, U16A and U15A quad races, our B Open quad did very well in the long 4km Head’s race on Sunday, and there were great wins for A double races and many skull races in each age group and in the A, B and C events.
Jenienne Curr and Kayleigh Scheepers also raced in the boys division (Boys 2nd Doubles) and came 2nd by a second. The boys who won got a time of 3mins 40secs and our girls got 3mins 41secs!
The Victrix Ludorum goes to the club with the most amount of points. Points are awarded for every 1st place. DSG only has 15 girls in our club, whereas other schools are 15 girls in each age group! This makes it extremely difficult to win the points cup, as we can't compete with numbers. But it is not impossible...DSG WON THE VICTIX LUDORUM CUP! We got 120 points, Somerset College got 106, and Peninsula Girls Rowing Club got 36.
This is unbelievably impressive - This is the first time DSG has won the points cup at any Regatta!
The girls are to be commended for their spirit, willingness to assist each other, and for their demonstrated skill in this demanding sport.
